Today is April first, which is April Fool’s Day. Oh yippee. I
don’t know why or how this phenomenon started, but on April Fool’s Day everyone
thinks it’s funny to announce a fake pregnancy. Because pregnancy is funny,
right? Only, it’s not so funny when you pour your everything into getting
pregnant only to have to face reality – it isn’t going to happen. Then
pregnancy becomes a lot less comical. Are invasive, intrusive, expensive
infertility treatments funny? Is infertility funny? Would it be funny to fake
infertility? Oh, haha! I can’t get pregnant! What a gas! Um, no I don’t think
so. So, why then is a fake pregnancy funny? On April first, I try to steer
clear of social media and especially Facebook, the land of fake April Fool’s
pregnancies.
